Mission Cake Pops: Accomplished

I had a little Super Bowl party last week, more on that later.  I'm not a huge football fan, and by huge I mean not a fan at all...but it was an excuse to make cute finger foods and class up the typical smorgasbord fare.  The cake pops were the fave.  I realize I'm a bit behind on the whole "cupcakes are out, pops are in" trend but better late than never, right?

Jim gets the birthday cake flavored cake pops at Starbucks frequently and I get to hear about how amazing they are for the following 3 hours- every time he finds a tiny little leftover piece in between his molars...so I told him I'd try to make them.  I made lemon, confetti cake and devils food with sea salt!

It all went pretty smooth until it came time to frost them.  I wasn't able to get pictures of that process because my hands were too busy and covered in frosting, sprinkles, balls of cake and sucker sticks.

What I loved the most: the lemon pops!

The Love List 1.22-1.28

1. This is the prettiest statement necklace from BCBG.  I had to have it. (add it to your jewelry box)

2. South Beach.  Got to spend last week in SoBe for work- it's still my fave place in the country. (hang this amazing print on your wall)
3. I was gifted this watch last week.  Pretty sure it's going to be a spring/summer staple.
4. I've rekindled my love affair with Deborah Lippman, Happy Birthday.  I looks amazing over red!
5. Stripes.  I'm just obsessed right now.  According to Glamour these specific stripes also represent the hottest women's colors for spring.
6. Crew Cuts never fails.  G will be getting this sparkly number in her Valentine's Day package.
7. G is lovin on Wizard of Oz big time.  I think this print will have to be a birthday prize.
8. I forgot how much I love mussels until we went to Paris 66 last night.
9. All of my Wall Flowers got an update today, Tiki Beach.  (smell it)

Have a great week!

Luck of the Chinese

Forget the Irish- Luck of the Chinese is what I'm talking about. Jim and I were lucky enough to attend the Organization of Chinese Americans New Years party here in Pittsburgh last weekend.  It was something new and pretty different, which is always welcome. I had no idea how much of the Chinese culture centered around luck. All I really correlate CNY to is a mad rush to get work done before it happens because once it starts everything shuts down in China...not so good for American retailers.

There were dragons (they were fake), ass kicking black belts, fan dancers, an awkward table of pageant queens (weird), a really bad anchor woman playing host and a lucky money ball...which Jim won for me in the auction.

What I loved the most: my lucky money ball and my necklace.

Here's to a prosperous and lucky 2012!  Happy Chinese New Year and every other kind of New Year too.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year & Merry Christmas!  Here are a few of my favorite pictures from this season.  Jim and I took the whole week off and it was blissful.  I have a feeling the "End of Year, Staycation" will become a tradition.

What I loved the most: the boy that kissed me at midnight

The Eyes Have It

Facial hair isn't such a bad thing if it's lashes and brows we're talking about.  I get a lot of comments on mine so I figured I'd post my current -I'd Rather Die Than Live Without- brow and lash products.  Here are three tips that pretty much apply to all faces, at least all faces that I've seen.
1. Angular brows are better than rounded.  There is a fine line between appropriate angular and gangster girl angular.  Be careful.
2. Everyone needs mascara.  If you think you don't- you're wrong.
3. One coat of mascara isn't enough.  You don't have to go all out Tammy Faye Baker but you do need at least two coats.  That means you apply, let it partially dry and apply again.

Brows:
Mac Shadow in Brun, Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel in Espresso & Anastasia Brush #7
Mascara:
Lancome Definicils in Noir & Maybeline Falsies in Blackest Black
